In Miguel's family, only his great-grandmother Coco remembers her father, a well-known musician who allegedly abandoned his family for music. Miguel is passionate about music and idolizes the famous musician Ernesto de la Cruz. By chance, he discovers the artist's famous guitar in an old family photo and is thrilled. On Día de los Muertos, the Day of the Dead, events unfold rapidly: Miguel steals this guitar from a mausoleum. When he tries to play it, something strange happens: Miguel can see the dead in the cemetery, and the living pass through him as if he were air. Together with his deceased relatives, Miguel sets off into the fantastic Land of the Dead to find out how he can return to life. Along the way, the boy meets the lovable skeleton Héctor, uncovers a well-kept secret, has to fight a dangerous opponent, and realizes that things are sometimes not as they seem. But time is running out: Miguel can only leave the Land of the Dead until sunrise...
