A little swift hatches from its egg. It learns to fly, to glide – and it immediately knows how to catch insects in flight. At the end of the summer, it embarks on the long journey to Africa, only to return next year.
Swifts spend their entire lives in the air; only during heavy thunderstorms do they cling to a house wall, and for breeding, they seek shelter. They even catch blades of grass for nest building in flight, and they also sleep in flight.
